I trust my diary with my biggest secrets. Since diary's can't talk it can never betray me unless someone finds it an reads everything. Trusting a person with my biggest secrets would be problematic for me.
What if the relationship went sour and they became angry and told everyone my secrets. What if they were never my friend in the first place and while I am thinking that they are my friend that person would blab all my secrets to everyone. I could never be sure that my secrets were safe with another person.
