As soon as Bud got home from that last day of school he hit the backyard basketball court to start practicing for the summer basketball league. He was so excited because he did not know any of the other players on the team so he was sure he was going to meet some great people and make new friends. The leagues started in july so he had a whole month to practice and dream about playing summer basketball.
In the mean time he also hit the books to learn more. He particularly wanted to study math as that was his favorite subject. Leaning to Bud was like going to an island resort to other kids. Learning was the funnest thing in the world to him. It was a world of adventure greater than traveling around the world or to the farthest reaches of the universe.
When Bud was not studying or practicing his basketball he was traveling around computer city aimlessly. He went and walked around in stores walked the streets. He just liked getting outside and getting to know his city on a more intimate level than watching the television news or reading about it in the newspaper. He went to the local barber shops and talked to the customers. He went and walked around shopping mall. Walked around playing fields. He just explored as much as he could to get what his city was about. It had the bonus of helping Bud get into better basketball shape so he could be read for the summer league. Sure Bud liked his computer but, he like the outdoors just as much and those weeks spent exploring computer city on foot were some of the best of his young life.
Bud had been thinking the past few week that he had always been the type of person to focus on the future and not on the now enjoying what he was doing at this moment in time. It was during this summer that Bud decided that if he did not like doing something and he did not have to do it he would remove it from his life. For example he did not like working in the garden and he did not have to working in his parents garden so he quit working in the garden. He like the out of doors but, he did not like gardening and he felt much better that gardening was not longer in his life. Let gardening make someone else miserable.
As the basketball league season started to approach he got more and more excited and practiced his basketball skills even more. Harriet even remarked that he looked more excited then she had seen him in years. "I hope you do well son" she said. "I am enjoying myself so much mom. I can't wait to play some summer basket ball. Bud said.
