The end of june

It's the end of June and the end of a lot of sweepstakes. It is always hard to enter all the sweepstakes that I want to at the end of the month because so many sweepstakes end. Hundreds of sweepstakes end at the end of each month, but I always get everything entered.

I had five wins in June two instant win and another three wins. Five wins is a big month for me. People win more than I do, but at least I won something. Some people win a lot less than I do so I should be happy to have won anything. Entering sweepstakes is a great hobby.

I only do online sweepstakes because I am cheap and do not want to pay postage or buy other materials. All I have to do is sit at my computer and press a button and roboform will fill out the sweepstakes forms.

I love roboform and don't know what I would do with out it. I will never go back to entering sweepstakes manually again after using roboform. I can enter so many more sweepstakes using it and I also like the price tag free or $20 or so dollars for roboform pro. I only use the free version.

Pike programming language

Pike is another programming language I have tried. Although I have not programmed in pike that much. I think I downloaded the interpreter and played around with it for a few days and have not used it since. I believe I tried a little bit of the tutorial on the pike website. I probably enjoyed myself.

Writing about all these programming languages makes me want to learn them all. I know that it might not be possible to learn all these programming languages, but it would be nice if I did know them all. A person can dream can't they.

Ruby programming language

Ruby is a programming language I would love to lean. I love the name ruby is sounds so red. I also like the fact ruby is from japan. I also like ruby because I want to finish reading why's (poignant) guide to ruby.

Why's (poignant) guide to ruby is the funniest programming book I have read. I laughed out loud reading the book. It saddens me that I only got to the second or third chapter. I had a lot of fun reading that book. I hope to finish it some day.

I have not programmed much in ruby, but I have heard about ruby on rails and I think it is popular. I did fool around with it for a couple of days though maybe a week.

Gimp Image Manipulation program

I also want to learn how to use Gimp an image manipulation program. I want to create a website so that is one reason I want to learn gimp. Another reason is knowing how to play around with photos and create other neat stuff. I think It would also come in handy to create things for bender.

I have tried to learn gimp before and have not stuck with it. I hope this time will be different. I have written those words to many times. This time I will stick with it even though I know it will take a lot of time to learn how to use gimp.

I like gimp because it is free which is great. I also like it because it is supposed to be powerful. I also like it because it is a small download.

Blender

As I have said before I want to make a small computer game. If I learn how to use blender I will be able to make that game. I can also use python with bender so that is why I will make my best effort to learn python.

I am amazed that bender is a free program there are a lot of things you can do with blender. Like create animations and also you can make video games. All that for free seems like a great deal to me.There is so much to learn about the program, but I hope I can learn how to use blender well. Blender is also a small download so I can download it quickly.

I have been thinking continued

I will continue talking about smalltalk. I want to read squeak by example. I remember I downloaded an unfinished version of squeak by example. I also remember I could not wait until the finished version of squeak by example was finally ready. But like most things I download the finished book and read a little bit of it, but never finished the book.

I want to start finishing things I start from reading squeak by example and learning smalltalk to learning python. I know I can finish things, but I have not applied myself. Well at least I have been doing this blog for a month.

AS I have said before I started blogs before this one only to give up a week or so later. It may not be good, but at least I am doing something I have always wanted to do and doing it every day.

I have been thinking

I have been thinking about what programs I want to learn how to use. I think that if I set goals to learn a certain program maybe I will learn that program. I have had my computer for a few years now and feel that I have not learned how to do much. I have set goals in the past to learn certain programs, but have not stuck to my goals.

The first thing I want to be able to do is program a computer. I know I said I am trying to learn Assembly language, but I think I Will try to learn squeak and python because I think they might be easier than assembly language.

I want to learn squeak because I think it is cool. I have wanted to learn smalltalk ever since I heard about the language. I think I can have a lot of fun with squeak and do some cool things.

I want to lean python so I can use it with blender the 3d animation program that I want to learn how to use. I have also read that python is easy to learn.

Another small win

I won a gift certificate from dryers ice cream. It arrived in the mail a couple of day ago. It surprised me because that daily sweepstakes ended about a month ago. I like ice cream, but I like free ice cream better. Free ice cream what a great win.

Another win in june

originally posted on June 13 at 11:33pm

yesterday I won mad money on DVD. That makes four DVDs I have won since I started entering sweepstakes. Wow I think DVDs are great wins.

Another DVD

originally on June 12 at 11:36pm

A few days ago I won Greg the bunny - best of the film parodies vol.2 on DVD. I don't have a DVD player, but maybe I will win one. This is my third win in June. I hope I get more wins in the month of June.

2 win in june

originally published June 5 at 12:54pm

June has been an OK month so far. June 1 I won a myoplex bar from an instant win I had been entering. On June 2 I got anther instant win this time I won a 16oz. bottle of tea's tea. I seem to be doing OK with instant win games 3 wins last month 2 wins this moth so far, wonderful. So now I have something to eat and wash it down with. I love winning food.

The end of may

originally posted on may 31 at 12:00pm

It's the end of may and that means a lot of sweepstakes to enter. It is always hard for me to enter all the sweepstakes I want to at the end of the month. Although I always get all the sweepstakes I want to enter finished. It took me a month or two of entering the sweepstakes at sweepstakes advantage to realise that usually the most sweepstakes end at the end of each month.

Yesterday I got all may 31 one entries done also I entered my monthly sweepstakes, and as always enter my daily sweepstakes. Right now I am sick of entering sweepstakes. Even using roboForm it can get exhausting to fill out all those sweepstakes forms. My be I will get some wins from all those sweepstakes, hopefully.

A small win yesterday

originally posted may 24 at 8:33pm

Yesterday I won 1 swag buck for using prize wish for my Internet searches. I Knew I could win swag bucks using prize wish, but I did not think I would ever win. It is amazing to me that I won, I have not used prize wish much.

Another win in may

originally posted on may 22 at 12:20pm

A couple of days ago I won a Gelaskins 13" laptop cover from Snapple. I have been playing that instant win for a while and I finally won. Yes I won I won!! Unfortunately I don't have a laptop , but I am hoping to win one.

My reasons for writing this blog

originally posted on may 18 at 1:04pm

I have always wanted to have a blog, but I think I don't write well or have anything interesting to say. I still want to blog anyway so I will go ahead and do it. I keep thinking of ideas and I think I found one. I want to write about my sweepstakes wins.

I have tried to blog before with no success. I only posted for maybe a couple of weeks and then gave it up. I would only write I checked my email today and that was it. Who wants to go to a blog to read that. So I will try to write more than that for a post on the blog. Also I think this blog will be a good way to improve my writing.

I will try to post at least 2 to three times a week. I want to show some pictures of my wins and talk about how it felt when the win arrived and anything else that I can think of.

I also like entering sweepstakes

I wanted to do two separate blogs one about my sweepstakes hobby and another about my computer hobby. Now I want to do only one blog because doing one is hard enough. so the next few posts will be from my other blog. I will get rid of that one and only do hello world.

Autoit programming language

Autoit is another programming language I learned about from the dictionary of programming languages. I did download autoit and had fun playing with it for a couple of hours. I want to learn more about autoit and I hope I will learn more about it.

One of the things I liked about autoit is it's suppose to be easy to learn. I also like that I could create gui's. I think it is a small download so I liked that also. Oh and its free and I like things that are free.

I wish I knew all the programming languages I have downloaded and tried. Unfortunately I have only used most of the compilers or interpreters a little. I get upset that I have had my computer for a few years and have not mastered a programming language.

But I am still programming and eventually I may learn a programming language or two and be able to create small programs. All I have to do is keep trying and not give up because if I give up I will never be able to make my own programs.

ABC Programming Language

About a year ago I learned about abc from the programming language dictionary. I like the name abc because it sounds fun. Like something made for a beginning programmer to use. So I downloaded the interpreter which did not take long, but I did not use abc much if at all.

ABC does seem like it would be fun to learn because it is not supposed to take long to learn if someone has programmed before. Nothing is ever easy for me thought.

My Favorite Dictionary

My favorite dictionary is the dictionary of programming languages. I started reading the dictionary of programming languages about a year or so ago. I think I read it every day for a couple of weeks, but I never did get to the end of the alphabet. I hope to finish it some day.

I learned about many programming languages I had never hear of before. I had a lot of fun clicking on the links to learn more about a specific language and downloading a compiler or interpreter if a free one was available. Although some of the links were dead I used a search engine to see if I could find a website to learn about the language.

I played around with some of the new tools I download, but I did not learn that much about any language in the programming language dictionary. That bothers me I download a bunch of compilers and want to learn a lot of new programming languages, but I don't know any programming language that well.

Algol60 programming language

I found algol60 at thefreecountry.com. I think algol is one of the first programming languages or at least it has been around a long time. I downloaded algol60 and could not get it to work, but eventually figured out how to use algol60. I can't remember what I kept doing wrong, but as I said I did get the compiler to work after a while. I have not used the compiler much, but I did like the fact that the speaker inside the computer case beeps when you run the compiler. I hope it is suppose to do that.

Basic4gl

I learned about basic4GL from the same site I learned about just basic. I wanted to learn how to use openGL and basic4GL is suppose to make it easier for beginners to learn openGL. I have always wanted to make a computer game and I thought basic4gL would make it easy to create a small game.

I downloaded basic4gL from the basic4gL website and I did try using it. I did not use it much because I thought it would be easier to learn basic and then use basic4gl. So I wanted to learn Just Basic and then move onto basic4gL. Unfortunately I have not learned much about either Just Basic or basic4GL. Hopefully I will learn all about basic4gL, I hope.

Just basic

I found just basic on a site that lists free compilers to download. There were other basics on the site, but I chose just basic because it is supposed to make it easy to create graphical user interfaces. I read some of the tutorial that comes with just basic, but did not get to the GUI part of the tutorial. Maybe I will finish the tutorial maybe I won't I don't know.

I know one thing for sure I did have fun using just basic. I like that it is free and that it is a small download. It comes with an IDE so I don't have to use a command prompt so I like that also. I also like the name basic because it seems like it has been around a long time.

RSS

My new new favorite toy is an RSS reader. I was reluctant to try RSS, but tried an RSS reader yesterday and had a lot of fun. I liked emails and did not want to change to Rss, but now email seems so slow compared to an RSS reader. I can not believe I did not try RSS sooner, but at least I am learning how to use it now.

Now I can not wait to get a lot of RSS feeds from my favorite websites. And I also can't wait to get feeds from the new websites I have found since I have been trying to find computer magazines on the web so I can learn some cool stuff.

PASCAL continued

Today I want to write about Lazarus which is an IDE for free pascal. I can not think of much to write about Lazarus, but one thing that makes me want to lean how to use it is the documentation for Lazarus. There is a lot of cool stuff to learn from that documentation I think.

Of course when I first saw Lazarus I had to download it and after I figured out what I needed to download I downloaded Lazarus. I wish it was a smaller download, but at about 40+ MB it is not that bad. Although if I want to use the new version it will take me a while to download on dial up.

After it finished downloading I did try Lazarus, but not for that long. I have not used Lazarus much since that day. It does look like it would be fun to use though and I hope to learn how to use it better.

Pascal Programming Langauge

Today I will write about the pascal programming language. I don't remember when I learned about pascal or why I wanted to try pascal. I think I found free pascal by typing pascal into a search engine to see if I could find a compiler for pascal that is free. So I went to the site and download pascal and tried a pascal tutorial from another site.

I think I say this to much, but I do like programming in pascal. what do I like about pascal, I not sure. I suppose I liked it because it was a new programming language for me to learn. well OK, I have not learned much pascal, but I want to learn more.

D Programming language

Today I will write about the D programming language. I don't remember when I fist heard about the d programming language. I don't know much about d, but it is a programming language I would like to learn more about.

I downloaded the d compiler, but could not get it installed. So I gave up on learnig to programming in d. Sometime later I did figure out how to install the d compiler and tried a few examples. I don't know what else to say about d other than I hope I learn more about d.

Logo programming langauge

Logo is another programming language I first read about in the book Dealers of lightning. I did not think logo would still be around. I thought no one could be using that language anymore, but on a site that lists free computer books on the Internet I found some books on logo. That is how I found Berkeley logo. So I downloaded Berkeley logo which can be used with the books. I don't think Berkeley logo is a big download only about 5MB which I liked.

I think logo is one of the coolest languages to programme in. Although I have not used Berkeley logo much, I had a blast using logo it was great. I don't think I have had so much fun using any other programming language except squeak and hla.

One of the things I thought was so great about logo is the turtle that you can make move around on the screen. At least that is what I think I can do with that turtle. I will have to try logo and figure out more about that turtle. I also thought that the editor that comes with logo is neat. It seems sort of similar to V.I.

The five things I like about forth

  1. name - What is it about the name forth that intrigues me. It could be that its name is also a number and the name of a programming language. That's all I can think of.

  2. size - As I said in the previous post I did use win32forth a little bit. Maybe I downloaded win32forth as a zip file, but for its size it seems to have a lot of tools. I like small downloads a lot so that made me like forth.

  3. GUI - Using win32forth I can create GUIs which is a big deal to me. At one time I only wanted to try a programming language that you could create GUIs with. I suppose any programming Language can create graphical user interfaces so maybe I should say make GUIs easily.

  4. challenge - One of the things I thought when I fist looked at forth source code was it seemed so different than java or c/c++ I thought to my self I don't think I will be able to read forth. Maybe with some practice I will be able to read forth, hopefully.

  5. obscure - I have not heard that much about the forth programming language. I suppose I want to learn forth eventually to see if I am missing anything. I guess not hearing much about forth makes it mysterious. Will I like forth even thought it is not one of the more well known programming language.

Forth programming language

I first heard about forth while reading sams teach yourself java or javascript. I can't member which book. The book had a link to a website about forth. There might have been a free forth compiler on the website, but I didn't find one. I did download a book and was excited to learn more about forth. But I never read the book because I thought I could not get a free forth compiler so I could try some code.

Probably a few months later I found a site that had a whole bunch of free compilers for many different programming languages. I was excited to discover that the site had a few free forth compilers. I chose two compilers bigforth, and win32Forth and downloaded them. I have only tried using win32Forth. I think the reason I have only tried that compiler is because I cold get the documentation.

Math

Math I wish I knew more math. I read a beginning book on programming that said you can be a good programmer and not know any on much math. That probably is true, but I want to use the math functions or classes in programming languages.

So I have tried to read a book on algebra that I found on the Internet. I have read the first chapter, but have not finished the book. Math looks like something I can do so hopefully I will get better at math. I used to be intimidated by math but like I said I think I can do it.

Assembly continued

I chose assembly language as the programming language I wanted to learn because it seemed that if I could learn assembly language I could lean any programming language. Also I thought it would be fun also to lean about the registers and machine instructions and more about the inner workings of a computer. I am not only interested in software, but I enjoy learning about hardware. Using registers and machine instruction has turned out to be fun.

The reason I chose HLA was because of the art of assembly language book. The art of assembly language has lots of information on hardware and assembly language. I could also get a IDE for hla, I have downloaded the IDE, but have not used it much.

Saturday, June 7, 2008

Assembly langauge

I can not remember when I first learned about assembly language. I want to learn hla, but that is not the only assembler I have downloaded, I also have flat assembler ,MASM32 ,easy code , winAsm studio installed on my computer. I have all of those assemblers on my computer, but have mostly used HLA, and only used the others a little bit. All the compilers or IDEs look like they would be fun to use, but I don't have enough time to practice using all of them.

REBOL again

I want to write more about rebol today. After I downloaded rebol I followed a tutorial on rebol.I think I kept doing the tutorial for maybe a week, but I never finished the tutorial. Then I think I started using rebol again and this time I tried following a tutorial on the rebol site. I don't think I finished that tutorial either.

That is a habit with me I get excited about a programming language and then I go on to a different programming language and never become any good at any language I try, because I try and focus on all the programming languages at once. Thought I think I am doing better with learning how to program.

I only want to learn only one programming language right now and hopefully I can stick to it, because it would be nice to be able to write a small program that would do something useful. I was not sure which language to pick so I picked the one I wanted to learn the most and that was assembly language programming.

REBOL pramming language

I do not remember exactly when I found out about the REBOL programming language it may have been more than a year ago. One of the things that surprised me when I found REBOL is the download size. The 1MB or less download size is super small compared to the other programming languages I have tried. The watcom c/c++ compiler is 60MB, java is 60MB plus 40MB for netbeans, perl, php, python, and squeak are all about a 15 MB download, VB.net is I think hundreds of MB, ruby about 20MB, HLA 1 to 2 MB. I didn't know then and I don't know now how they make it such a small download, but it is one of the things that makes REBOL seem so awesome. I wish all programming languages were a 1 MB or less download like REBOL. REBOL

More squeak

I want to learn squeak because it seems so different from other programming languages. I have read a little of the book squeak by example, but I need to finish reading the book so I can use squeak. I also like to look at the weekly squeak a blog about squeak. I have not looked at the weekly squeak recently, but I hope to start reading it again because I think it is great. One of my favorite things to to with squeak is to make the computer speak which can be done easily with one line of code. I don't think making the computer say something is that easy in other programming languages.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

small talk programming langauge

For the next few posts I want to talk about some of the programming languages I have tried. The first one I want to talk about is smalltalk. I first heard about smalltalk while reading Dealers of lightning by: michael Hiltzik which is a book about Xerox's parc in its first years. The book did not talk much about smalltalk, but what it said had me curious about smalltalk. The language was created in 1971 and I had not heard of it before so I thought it was dead. So I did an Internet search and found squeak which is smalltalk. I was surprised that smalltalk was still around.

My goal

Today I will write about my goal for this blog. I want to write a paragraph every day. I want that paragraph to be about something interesting like t.v., movies, computers or anything I can think of to write. I do not want to write I checked my email. I need to think about what I am going to write so I can have something interesting to say. When I have tried to blog before I have not thought about what to post. Before I would only sit down at the computer I would not think about my blog at any other time. Also with my previous blogs I only blogged for a week or or two and then give up. Hopefully this time will be different then my previous attempts at blogging.

Open watcom C/C++ compiler

The C/C++ compiler that I use now is open watcom. I like it because it is free and it is and IDE, plus it is only a 60MB download so it does not take all day on a 56k modem. I am not good at using it yet, but I hope to get better with practice I have been looking at the documentation the past few days. Well only a little of the documentation. I also need to learn c and c++ programming languages so I can have some fun with open watcom. I leaned how to find and install the open watcom compiler at about.com : c/c++/C#. open watcom
