Buds Best Years, Page 35

After Buds tough summer he was read for school to begin. Computer city high school was one of the top high schools in the country. The first day of school for the incoming freshman class at computer city always began with an orientation.

The orientation the principle of computer city high welcoming the freshmen. Then the dress code and code of conduct were outlined.

For the code of conduct. Each student was to act civil to every other student. Including no hitting, yelling, picking on, verbally abusing another student. Any violation could lead to detention and repeated violations could lead to expulsion. "Do I make myself clear" Dr. Zooey said.

As for the dress code each student was to wear dark blue; the school colors. Boy could wear blue slacks with either a shirt or shirt and sweater. While girls could wear blue slack and shirt or sweater or knee length skirt with shirt or shirt and sweater. Any violations of the dress code would be issued a warning and if continued a 2 week suspension. Those were the only types of clothes allowed to be worn on the school grounds.

Next the students were asked if the had any questions. A girl named Fiona raised her had. "Yes, Fiona" Dr. Zooey said. "Why does the school have a strict dress code." Fiona said. "To lower the cost of school clothes for parents and to ovoid any student from being picked on because of his or her fashion. We think its a reasonable dress code.

"Another student asked if the computer lap would be getting tablet computers."? "No not his year I am afraid. The tablet computers are to expensive."

If there are not other questions. I will adjourn this orientation so the freshmen class can go to their homeroom.

The homeroom teacher for the freshman class was a woman named Susan Vince. She is a graduate of computer city high class of 1972 and the chemistry teacher. Becoming a teacher was her dream since childhood. She liked to teach young minds and watch them grown into mature young adults.

The first order of business in homeroom was roll call. After roll call there was a brief reading period. Then it was time for the class to spit up and each head to their separate first period classes.

Buds first class was Algebra 2. He waked in and was stunned to see Cynthia files. She was the new algebra 2 teacher after the other one quit over a contract dispute just days before school started. Bud thought she had retired from teaching to once again return to the computer company she started; star computer. But, she could not keep away from teaching as she liked seeing kids grow and learn.

Bud had the normal courses of any freshman in high school: Algebra 2, chemistry, drivers ed. P.E., Welding, Auto shop, civics/world history. He was so happy to be away from his wrecked home life. He wanted to sing up for an extracurricular activity so he picked chess. He had no idea how to play the game but, he was sure he could learn.
