Buds Best Years, Page 38

One of Bud's favorite things to do darning his high school years was eat a whole coffee cake that he made himself every week. He would make it from scratch and bake it and then eat it in one sitting while watching his favorite college basketball team.

The pain of his parents separation was getting lesser and lesser as he was getting farther into the 9th grade. His parents we on speaking terms so that made everything a little easier.

Another hobby Bud enjoyed was racing his radio controlled cars around his home built track. He owned the Arrow made by the radio controlled car company of computer city. The company was founded by Roy Holt a former radio controlled car champion. Roy won the computer city RC championship 3 years in a row during his prime as a racer. He started the company out of garage selling custom RC cars that he constructed to order for his wealth RC racing clients. The company eventually branched out into making RC cars that were sold in kit or full assembled form.

The arrow was top of the line. Bud received it one years a birthday present from his father. Bud assembled the kit himself it took him a while but, he did it. As soon as he got the car finished he could not wait to test it. He took it out onto his mother driveway and raced it around and around in circles until it was dark.

When he told Sid about how much fun he was having racing the RC in the drive way Sid said "So how about I have a track built" "Sure" Bud said. And later that week a contractor was hired to design and build a state of the art RC track at Sid's how so Bud would have a place to race the Arrow. It took about a month for the track to be completed but, when it was there was not better RC track in the world.

It was so good that the computer city RC club asked Sid if he would allow them to hold races there every week and a championship series. Sid agree and the track was named Roy Holt race track and so races were held weekly and a championship was held at the end of a 30 week season. The season was grueling and long but, bud managed to finish in the top 25 out of 100 racers in the computer city area. He thought that was not to bad considering it was only the first year he raced radio controlled card.

Radio controlled car racing provided another sport that he could participate in besides basketball. Since he did not have any other activity to participate in besides basketball and chess.
